Who holds the overall responsibility for the POSH program?

The overall responsibility for the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) program lies with the Commander. This role is critical because the Commander establishes the command climate and sets the tone for the organization in regards to policies and behaviors. The Commander’s commitment to preventing sexual harassment influences not only the enforcement of policies but also the training and education provided to subordinates.

While the Equal Opportunity Advisor (EOA), supervisors, and the HR department play important supportive roles in implementing the POSH program, it is ultimately the Commander who bears the overarching accountability for creating a safe and respectful work environment. This includes ensuring compliance with regulations, providing resources for training, and taking corrective actions when necessary. The Commander leads by example and must actively engage with the program to foster a culture that discourages harassment and promotes respect among all personnel.
